Puppy Care

Bringing a puppy home is an exciting yet sometimes stressful experience. Whether this is your first puppy or you’re returning to puppy parenthood after a break, we’re here to help. We can answer common questions and provide tips to ensure you give your new fur baby the best care possible.

Puppy Starter Pack

We believe it’s only right for our little ones to leave with a few “Goodbye” presents. Each puppy goes home with a small bag of their current food, puppy pads, a handcrafted comfort blanket with their mother’s and siblings’ scent, a variety of edible goodies and treats, a selection of fun toys, a bone-shaped poop bag holder with bags, and delicious training treats. We aim to provide everything needed to help your new fur baby settle in comfortably.

Time for training!

Socializing your puppy with people and other dogs is crucial, but it’s important to be cautious about who they meet until they’ve received all their puppy vaccines at 16 weeks. During this time, it’s best to keep your puppy in a fenced-in yard and limit interactions to fully vaccinated dogs. We strongly encourage enrolling in puppy classes for training and socialization, but keep in mind that most classes require your puppy to be up to date on all vaccinations.

Grooming and Brushing tips!

Now is the ideal time to get your puppy comfortable with experiences they’ll encounter throughout their life, such as vet visits, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and brushing their coat and teeth. Early exposure to these activities helps ensure they won’t be afraid of them in the future.

What do I feed my puppy?

With so many dog food options available, it’s important to choose a formula specifically designed for growing puppies that is complete and balanced. We provide a small sample of the food we currently feed our puppies. You can decide whether to continue with this food or switch to another brand. However, please keep in mind that changing foods too quickly can cause diarrhea. To prevent an upset stomach, it’s recommended to gradually transition by mixing the new food with the old one for about three days before fully switching to your chosen food.

When should I transition my puppy from a puppy formula to an adult food?

We recommend keeping your puppy on a puppy formula until they are fully grown, typically around one year old.

How do I set my puppy for potty training success?

Potty training is much more successful and enjoyable when you focus on positive reinforcement, praising your puppy when they succeed rather than scolding them for accidents. Since puppies are still developing their muscles, it’s important to take them outside frequently to minimize accidents. We typically take our puppies out every two to three hours during the day to help them establish good habits.

What must I know about deposits?

To reserve your preferred puppy, we require a $500 deposit. Once the deposit is received, the puppy will be removed from our website and reserved exclusively for your family. Please note that deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred to another available puppy if a major reason arises. The deposit must be used within one year of placement; otherwise, it will no longer be valid.

What can I expect from visits to the vet?

During vet visits, you can expect a complete physical exam for your puppy, along with any necessary vaccinations and deworming if needed.

How often can I bathe and brush my puppy?

You can bathe your puppy every two weeks and brush them twice weekly to prevent their coat from becoming matted.

How should I cut my dog’s hair?

We recommend choosing your puppy’s haircut based on pictures that inspire you. Online, you’ll find a variety of styles to choose from. We love the teddy bear look. Keep in mind that some coats require more maintenance than others, so consider how much time you can dedicate to grooming on a daily or weekly basis.
